UUChat
UUPlus Chat (UUChat) is designed for private SMS messaging, GPS tracking, file transfer, client/server, and peer to peer email over HF/VHF radios and modems. UUChat can be used in a UUPlus Server controlled network or in a stand alone ad hoc (peer to peer) network with two or more UUChat clients connecting directly to each other.
Radio Texting. UUChat supports sending short text messages to another UUChat client or to a UUPlus Dispatcher using only the pagecall command of the radio. Messages can optionally encrypted. No modem is required in this mode and messages are restricted to under 60 characters depending on the radio.
Modem Data Call. UUChat also supports peer to peer (another UUChat client in an ad hoc network) and client / server (a UUPlus Server with the Dispatcher option) chat, email, and file transfer using the HF modem. Chat text is not size limited and file size is only limited by the amount of time it takes to transfer a file. Files are automatically compressed before transmission. In the case of an interrupted transmission, the mid-file restart feature eliminates the need to retransmit the entire file.
Client/Server and Peer to Peer Email. Along with texting and file transfer, UU+Chat supports peer to peer email and client/server email. In an ad hoc network email can be sent to any user in the Contact List. In a Server based network email is forwarded to the mail server if it isn't listed in the Contacts list.
Contact List. UUChat includes a simple address book for selecting and configuring connections with multiple users. There is no limit to the number of users in the address book, but there are practical limits as to how many stations can be supported in an ad hoc HF network.
Chat History. A chat history of messages sent and received is maintained for each user in the Contacts list and is displayed when the user is selected. Date and time stamps are included with each entry. Entries for files sent and received are also included.
Image File Resizing. Images to be transmitted to a remote can automatically re-sized to something feasible for a HF network.
GPS Scanner. A GPS device reader is provided and can maintain a GPS log, as well as transmitting current position to another UU+Chat client or to a Server. This is provided for the case where UU+Chat is using both the radio and modem, and the radio does not include a second serial port for both the UU+Chat software and and a GPS device.
Link Encryption. UU+Chat provides password and transmission data encryption providing a sufficient level of security of transmitted data without sacrificing throughput.
